The Cornish Language Funding The recently proposed Westminster Government's £80,000 per year for the next three years towards our Cornish language must be applauded and welcomed. What must never be forgotten, is the long hard struggle by those in the front line of the campaign to get the Cornish Language even recognised - we owe them our heartfelt thanks and undying gratitude.
What must not be forgotten also, is that this success has only been facilitated by coincidental actions of the Council of Europe and not by any altruistic action on the part of the United Kingdom Government. Cornwall is a dominion territory under the protection of the English Crown (and its succesors!), and the State has had a responsibility to protect the rights of the Cornish people. It has carried out this burden by writing us out of history, so that we now have the ignominy of having to justify our national legitimacy
